Credit and Political Risk Underwriter/Credit Analyst
Zurich Credit and Political Risk is looking for an experienced Underwriter/Credit Analyst to work with our Americas, London and Continental Europe underwriting teams. The position can be located in Washington, DC or New York.

Have intermediate to advanced corporate and financial institution credit analysis skills.
Zurich provides political risk and trade credit insurance on a global basis. More than 300 of the world’s leading companies- including financial institutions, multinational corporations, investors, exporters and infrastructure developers- are supported from Zurich offices in Washington D.C., London, Madrid, Melbourne, Owings Mills, New York, Paris, Singapore, Tokyo, Toronto and Zurich.
Zurich is a member of the Berne Union- an international union of credit and investment insurers- and often re-insures and co-insures with fellow Berne Union members that are export credit agencies and multilateral institutions.
Using proprietary rating models, including the Zurich Corporate Credit Scorecard, to analyze risk
Analyzing corporate and financial institution financial statements and calculating financial ratios
Conducting financial analysis for the underwriting of credit risks and providing qualitative analysis of obligors
Providing industry analysis utilizing rating agency models and assessing the trends and risks impacting obligors’ industries; evaluating the competitive factors that obligors must address in their industries in order to be successful
Providing recommendations to underwriters on new credit and political risk exposures
Providing country analyses and data to the global underwriting team
Monitoring existing portfolio of exposures in a wide range of countries and sectors, identifying early warning signals, and recommending a reduction in exposures to companies/sectors where applicable
Supporting the Global Head of Credit & Political Risk with presentations as needed
Participating in other projects as needed
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing Area.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing Area
5 or more years of experience in credit analysis or underwriting
Intermediate to advanced corporate credit analysis skills
Proficiency with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Experience working under time constraints in a customer service-oriented environment
Familiarity/experience with credit insurance
Bachelors degree specializing in economics or finance
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
Completion of a bank credit training program
Intermediate knowledge of financial institution credit analysis
Experience with Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ
Strong verbal and written communication skills
High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
Experience working in a team environment
General knowledge of world events
Experience with credit insurance
Knowledge of political risk
