Underwriting Account Service Analyst


Zurich North America is currently hiring an Underwriting Account Service Analyst to join the Large Casualty Underwriting team!

As an Underwriting Account Service Analyst, you will support the Energy Casualty Underwriting team. Exceptional organizational, strong technical, analytical skills with multi-tasking abilities are required for this position. This position can be located remotely for an internal employee of Zurich North America. New employees to Zurich North America will be required to work at our Houston office.

With advanced industry knowledge of underwriting processes and fully conversant in Zurich’s value proposition, supports Underwriters working on multiple commercial lines of business with varying complexity requiring customized analysis using multiple tools and references.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Reviews, evaluates and analyzes risk exposures, controls, loss history, financial condition and recommends or executes, underwriting decisions around submission acceptance or declination within established risk appetite

  • Anticipates underwriting exposure information needs, and proactively seeks out alternative, relevant data sources using underwriting tools to improve understanding of risks

  • Analyze and recommends input in areas of policy rating, subjective pricing, policy construction, coverages and exclusions, mandatory forms, etc. that are needed to accurately quote and/or renew policies (bonds)

  • Develops and executes account servicing solutions independently and in collaboration with Underwriter, with responsibility for end-to-end servicing processes for new business, renewals, and endorsements for more complex business accounts

  • Drives broker/agent/distributor/customer interactions and on-site calls related to account servicing matters with a planned and well-prepared purpose. Builds strong working relationship outside the team and with broker counterparts

  • Develops new team members and provides support and coaching to peers, based on quality results. Provides coaching and problem solving for complex transactions/issues while educating peers on the context behind the solution

  • Supports special projects as assigned

  • Business Travel, as required

  • Extended Hours during Peak Periods, as required

  • Maintain a Valid Driver’s License, as required

  • Regular Predictable Attendance

  • Visibility in the Office, as Required

Business Accountabilities:

  • Conduct due diligence on transactions and processes in order to determine the risk profile and compliance with relevant regulations

  • Independently collate and analyze data using The Zurich Way of Underwriting, making recommendations within assigned authority levels to support the decision to provide new and renewal underwriting business

  • Assess and evaluate underwriting process in order to implement agreed technical standards, controls, practices and procedures, maintaining underwriting disciplines and identifying opportunities for improvements

  • Review assigned customer cases, prioritize case load and interpret established policies, applying discretion within authority limits in order to resolve customer issues

  • Handle and resolve a range of queries from customers, providing advice and supporting the development of an account to create additional value for the organization and customers

  • Provide specialist advisory support to internal clients on a daily basis, by being focal point of contact, to ensure that there is no misalignment between policy and practice

• Bachelor’s degree and no prior experience in the Administrative, Customer Service, Financial Services, Risk Management or Insurance area


• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associate Degree and no prior experience in the Administrative, Customer Service, Financial Services, Risk Management or Insurance area


• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Administrative, Customer Service, Financial Services, Risk Management or Insurance area


• Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment. For Surety only: Knowledge of the Surety industry. For Direct Markets and Crop only: Knowledge of the insurance or financial industry, legal and regulatory environment.

  • Experience with data collection and analysis

  • Experience with processing, rating and policy management systems used in the insurance industry. For Surety only: Knowledge of bond administration systems. For Direct Markets and Crop only: Knowledge of processing, rating and policy management systems used in the insurance or financial industry

  • Customer service experience

  • Problem solving experience

  • Experience servicing product portfolios for multiple lines of business for insurance. For Surety only: Experience servicing Surety accounts. For Direct Markets and Crop only: Experience servicing product portfolios for multiple lines of business for insurance or financial industry.

  • Microsoft Office experience


• Knowledge of underwriting philosophy and techniques

• Knowledge of national and local insurance filing regulations and guidelines

• Knowledge of international insurance programs
