Trainee Medical Underwriter (Part-Time, Job-Share and Full-Time)


Location: Swindon (Hybrid working). Homeworker contracts will be considered if you live a considerable distance from our Swindon office.

Hours: 37.5 (Monday to Friday)

As we grow, we are now looking for trainee underwriters who have a great knowledge of human biology / physiology or who have a highly analytical mindset, together with a real focus on delivering for the customer, to join our experienced and highly successful team.

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

The role

We are looking for trainee medical underwriters, with a passion for delivering outstanding service, to join our UK retail protection team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing applications for Life, Critical Illness, or Income Protection with a view to making a decision to accept or decline, applying ratings / terms as appropriate

  • Communicating with advisers and customers to gather further information and requesting medical information as required

  • Explaining decisions made and positively resolving any decision challenges

  • Actively supporting and contributing to our culture of continuous improvement

  • Providing training, coaching and support to other team members (when experienced)

Your skills and experience

Ideally you will

  • Have knowledge of human biology / physiology (desired but not essential)

  • demonstrate an analytical mindset

  • Work well in a team but also thrive individually

  • Be customer focused with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Have a strong attention to detail

  • Have appropriate IT skills

  • Demonstrate a positive can-do attitude, always acting with integrity
