Zurich North America is currently looking for an experienced Assistant Vice President of Commercial Liability to join our Technical Underwriting team based in Schaumburg, Illinois. This role will provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance on the Liability Line of Business (LOB) to Business Unit Leaders and the Market Facing Underwriters across North America.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive general liability portfolio management experience, expert level knowledge of complex underwriting concepts, pricing, product, and coverage in the general liability space, with a demonstrable ability to deliver meaningful underwriting insights and to operationalize line of business strategies.
The candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Commercial Liability Portfolio in North America, and will work with cross-functional resources to drive LOB portfolio management, assist in setting strategy, priorities, and expectations, identifying needs, interests, and challenges as well as identifying gaps and root causes, and is ultimately responsible for scheduling, assigning, and delivering actionable plans that support the profitable and sustainable growth of the Liability LOB. This candidate will contribute to the development of technical standards, controls and practices in line of business or product line.
Additional responsibilities include:
Identify trends and emerging issues that will impact business results and promptly develops strategies for addressing those trends, assessing risks and opportunities, trade-offs and benefits, and impact on short- and long-term goals
Analyze and monitor insurance product performance along with competitor trends in the marketplace to delivery data-based decisions regarding underwriting, coverage, and pricing to drive improvement
Advise and collaborate with senior leadership team and others on a wide array of liability insurance related issues
Build strong relationships among teams and team members to ensure cooperation on project objectives
Assist with approval of terms and conditions enabling Underwriters to write profitable business
Contribute to the delivery of effective training for the front-line underwriters and managers
Independently drive complex projects from inception through execution
Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Underwriting areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting area
Advanced knowledge in the Liability line of business and the legal and regulatory environment
Strong relationship, negotiation and leadership skills
Superior PowerPoint skills including advanced presentation and storytelling skills
Strong knowledge of other standard office applications
Tactical knowledge of insurance industry operations and processes
Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills
