Job Summary

To lead the development and implementation of the strategic direction for Specialty Products (D&O, E&O, EPL, FI, Cyber, Fiduciary, M&A, Surety, Travel, and A&H) claims in Canada

Job Accountabilities

  • Drive the customer journey for Specialty Claims

  • Provide technical oversight of the Specialty Claims team which includes the review of claims, the provision of financial authority and presenting and escalating financial requests when required

  • Manage the overall operational, budgetary and financial responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and continually evaluate strategies, policies, procedures, and best practices for the efficient handling of Specialty claims in Canada in line with the strategic objective of Zurich Canada, to enhance customer service, technical excellence, and quality

  • Evaluate, monitor, and interpret commercial drivers, internal and market loss data to identify and understand industry trends and provide claims insights to support Zurich Canada‚Äôs goals and work collaboratively with underwriters and other stakeholders to develop strategy

  • Provide thought leadership by identifying opportunities and risks associated with changes in direction of external environment looking forward 5 years.

  • Establish a communication strategy to better partner with underwriting, actuarial, and other internal stakeholders

  • Support underwriting efforts in product development

  • Establish and maintain vendor and legal panels and vendor and legal relationships for the various Specialty lines

  • Working with international partners, drive the resolution of claims for customers with policies produced out of Canada and take ownership of the customer relationship

  • Build broker and customer relationships and represent Zurich Canada Specialty Claims in the market

  • Set team goals and objectives, and develop and retain talent and support professional and career development for the Specialty Claims team members

  • Drive continuous improvement in Specialty Claims

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state of the art practices, participating in professional societies.

Job Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims area

AND

  • 6 or more years of management experience

  • 6 or more years of insurance or litigation experience

  • Customer service experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

  • Negotiation experience

  • Experience collaborating across work groups

  • Experience working with loss and severity trends

  • Experience identifying and implementing strategies to mitigate loss

  • Travel up to 50%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris-Doctor (JD)

  • Litigation experience in the specialty lines

  • in-depth knowledge and skill of claims handling

  • in-depth knowledge of legal statutes and procedures

  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment

  • Analytical skills
