Zurich is currently looking for an experienced Loss Sensitive Casualty Underwriter to join our Middle Market Complex Casualty Underwriting team in the Midwest. We are open to hiring talent in Chicago, St. Louis and/or Kansas City and are looking for someone who has established relationships with Brokers in the Midwest. Travel to the Chicagoland area will be needed for this position. This is a technical and market facing role working with our complex/loss sensitive casualty products and is a great opportunity to join an expanding team.
While this position will be based out of one of our office locations, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis (or remote if not located within commuting distance to one of our offices within the region). You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers.
This role will be filled at either the Senior or AVP underwriting level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.
Our Underwriters are market-facing with objectives focused on profitable growth and superior service to our broker partners and customers and are responsible for:
Generating, underwriting and analyzing domestic Complex and Loss Sensitive Casualty business
Market facing and production activities
Complying with underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules
Developing and maintaining agency and broker relationships
Working within broad limits and authorities on complex assignments
Loss Sensitive Complex Casualty Senior Underwriter Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Brokerage or Market Facing areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience working in a team environment

Loss Sensitive Complex Casualty AVP Underwriter Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Brokerage or Market Facing areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Experience with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications (Senior/AVP Level):
Bachelor’s Degree
Knowledge of Domestic Complex Casualty Products
Ability to effectively assess risk
Strong negotiation skills
Strong broker relationships within the Midwest region
Superior skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiation.
Possess a high level of customer service by meeting or exceeding broker and or customer expectations with respect to required deadlines
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines

The salary indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled.The combined salary range for this position is $115,000.00 -$205,000.00. Theproposedsalary range for theLoss Sensitive Complex Casualty Senior is$115,000.00-$165,000.00with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.FortheLoss Sensitive Complex Casualty AVPis$150,000.00-$205,000.00with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
