Zurich is currently hiring an experienced Casualty Underwriter to join our newly created Energy Casualty Renewables team!

The Senior Energy Casualty Renewables Underwriter will analyze and underwrite evolving risks in the dynamic Renewables sector. This includes soliciting and underwriting new and renewal business to drive profitable growth. In addition, and under minimal direction, you will utilize The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework as a subject matter expert, and ensure a high-level service to customers. As a Senior Underwriter, you will serve as a leader and mentor to the team offering technical guidance on key coverage issues and forms. In this role you will handle a broad geographic territory of external distribution partners with dedicated Renewables expertise. You will be tasked with developing key external relationships & also support of close working relationships with key internal cross-sell partners. In addition, you will have the exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of the practice and continuous improvement of the process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end to end solution for their insurance needs

  • Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, pricing, and documentation

  • Preparing and presenting referrals, as necessary

  • Using risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale

  • Delivering and negotiating successful outcomes with the agent/broker

  • Market facing and production, including client stewardship and onsite broker visits

  • Development and management of robust new business pipeline

  • Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules

  • Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business

  • Experience working in a collaborative, team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Energy casualty or construction underwriting experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Sales execution mindset

  • Creative problem-solving skills

  • Microsoft Office experience
