Technical Director, Credit Lines
Zurich North America is currently looking for an experienced Technical Director for our Credit Lines of business. As a senior member of the Technical Underwriting management team this role leads a team of expert underwriters, actuaries and product designers to deliver professional services necessary to support the successful underwriting of our Credit Lines business, which includes, Surety, Credit & Political Risk and Subguard/Subcontractor Default Insurance. Working with business unit leaders and local teams, this role is responsible for optimizing underwriting performance, by providing underwriting leadership and direct oversight of product management and development, product pricing, and portfolio performance management for all credit lines of business. The Technical Director for Credit Lines works closely with the leaders in the business units writing these lines, effectively acting as a trusted partner and advisor in setting strategy, then delivering portfolio performance analysis, identifying actions and providing underwriting tools to ensure successful execution of financial expectations for the entire portfolio. This role will also lead underwriting operational transformation, support a sound governance framework and contribute to the development of strategic underwriting goals, cycle management strategy and underwriting policy for all Credit Lines. Professional services delivered include: portfolio performance metrics; risk selection and pricing insights including emerging issues that impact profitability; annual state of the line analysis: lessons learned from large losses; underwriting qualify assurance; technical training and underwriting guidelines for underwriting empowerment; product management and development, product pricing and accumulation management.
This position is flexible on location although preferred location is in Schaumburg, IL, or Jersey City, NJ.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Lead the delivery professional underwriting services necessary to support successful Credit Lines underwriting in order to drive expected financial results.
Develop, negotiate and implement strategic operational plans to support BU goals; provide input to the Credit Lines strategies.
Optimize allocation of resources and launch common products, projects, investments across Credit Lines that meet business unit needs.
Develop, expand business opportunities and long-term customer relationships.
Identify opportunities and risks associated with changes in direction of external environment, looking forward 5 years.
Produce results and achieve profits, either directly or by providing support by developing, implementing and monitoring business/ operational plans.
Determine which emerging issues (internal and external) are relevant to current and future needs and ensure strategies, programs, processes incorporate these.
Ensure that appropriate documentation, implementation and communication of established policy, procedures and operating standards is completed for area of responsibility.
Regularly monitors and evaluates activities to identify potential risks and issues of non-compliance.
Participates or may lead risk assessment for their area of responsibility and escalates potential issues to higher management.
- Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Operations area
Experience operating across many different functional teams
Management and Leadership experience
Advanced knowledge and practice of Credit Lines of business to include Surety, Credit& Political Risk and Subguard/Subcontractor Default Insurance
Experience managing cross functional teams to include Underwriters, Product Designers, Pricing Actuaries, and Underwriting Analysts
Strong Leadership skills
Demonstrated technical knowledge and multi-level leadership skills reflective of a practitioner who has been operating at a senior underwriting leadership level or manager role
Strong track record of fostering business improvement and delivering change in a complex insurance environment
Strong relationship, presentation skills, negotiation and leadership skills
Ability to interact with the C-Suite
Ability to manage complex portfolios
CFA, AFSB or CPCU
