Job Summary

Zurich is currently looking for a new member to join the Actuarial Reserving team to work out of our award winning North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The role is a Senior Actuarial Analyst II within the Actuarial Reserving team, which is responsible for reserve reviews, monthly financial close and syndicating quarterly results to senior leaders focusing on the Middle Markets and Large Property SBUs.

Reserving collaborates with Technical Execution to complete quarterly reserve reviews and the monthly financial close. You will use your insurance knowledge, SBU portfolio insight and analytical skills to perform or influence analyses to support our Underwriters, Managers, Finance, and Field Actuaries. These analyses will support a breadth of projects, including reserve reviews and increasing the organization’s efficiency, effectiveness and technical capabilities.

The Senior Actuarial Analyst II will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with Technical Execution to complete quarterly reserving reviews and associated deep dives providing final approval for reserve studies

  • Becoming technical and product expert for all business segments within the assigned SBUs

  • Understanding the reserving and pricing process for assigned business segments and provides support and insights into underlying performance and implications within Actuarial CoE, Finance and business leaders.

  • Supporting quarterly Pre-Close and Close Reserve Committee meetings for Zurich North America

  • Syndicating quarterly results to Middle Markets & Large Property senior management

  • Collaborating within Actuarial CoE to align on Expected Loss Ratios used as a key input for reserve reviews, Country Underwriting Plan, Strategic Business Review and Financial Plan

  • Delivering timely and accurate monthly financial close

  • Delivering loss ratio forecasts

  • Training less experienced personnel as needed

  • Providing support for all other requests including:

  • SAO and MD&A support

  • Quantifying UW actions

  • Ad hoc requests

Job Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mathematics/Statistics or Actuarial Sciences and 5 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area

    AND

  • ACAS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FCAS

  • Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and in multiple business units

  • Actuarial experience that includes a combination of reserving and pricing experience, diversified business lines that include commercial lines of business

  • Project management skills

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
