Zurich North America is currently hiring a Legal Research and Project Specialist for its Staff Legal Office in Schaumburg, IL. The role holder is responsible for supporting (under the supervision of lawyers) the identification, management and mitigation of legal and regulatory risks, to enable business to achieve strategic and commercial goals in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and to protect and preserve Zurich’s tangible and intangible assets. The candidate selected for this opportunity should be able to report into the following North American Claims office: Schaumburg, IL

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Conducts thorough and timely legal and/or documentary research on matters of basic and medium complexity, drawing from multiple sources of information; ability to organize, distill, and summarize results of research and prepare appropriate presentations of research findings depending upon nature of research and presentation audience using reports, charts, diagrams, and/or other mediums as appropriate.

  • Supports lawyers with legal, regulatory or process improvement projects by working closely with project leaders, assisting in project planning and project documentation, assuming responsibility for completion of key projects tasks as assigned, and preparing project presentations materials.

  • Supports lawyers with committee responsibilities as required.

  • Organizes and maintains paper and electronic documents and files.

  • Responds to inquiries and provides updates to attorneys, internal departments, outside counsel, external agencies, opposing counsel, witnesses, and/or external customers as needed.

  • Prepares routine and less complex legal documents, correspondence, and/or pleadings

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree and 2 or more years of experience in the Legal or Legal Support areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 2 or more years of experience in the Legal or Legal Support areaAND

  • Experience conducting electronic database research

  • Experience drafting legal documents, correspondence, and/or pleadings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Insurance industry experience

  • Ability to effectively conduct electronic database research, including Westlaw and NILS/Wolters Kluwer

  • Microsoft 365 Office Expertise in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Comfortable working in a paperless work environment

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Comfortable working in a remote & an office environment.

  • CORE Registered Paralegal (CRP)

  • PACE Registered Paralegal (PRP)

  • Certified Paralegal (CP)

  • Certified Legal Assistant (CLA)

  • Professional Paralegal (PP)
