Cyber Application Security Engineer I


Zurich Services LLC (a division of Zurich NorthAmerica) is currently hiring a Cyber Application Security Engineer I and thisperson will sit in our Schaumburg, IL North America HQ.This person will report to the Manager ofCyber Application Security.

The Application Security team specializes in understanding webtechnology, the related vulnerabilities, best practices for development andremediation, and the latest tools available to protect our vast portfolio ofweb sites and applications.

Application Security Engineers are technical subject matter expertswhile also helping manage a Service to the business. Responsibilities includeworking with peers in Group Information Security to advise businessstakeholders and various application development teams on proper security intheir Software Development Lifecycle, to scan and identify vulnerabilities inapplications and courses for remediation, and strategic use of infrastructuretechnologies such as web application firewalls to provide layers of defense.

The role is to execute a consistent global applicationsecurity program for all Zurich Insurance business units to reduce overallcosts and risks. These security platforms will automate and provide technicalcontrols in accordance to the Zurich Blue Book.


  • Bachelor’sDegree and 2 or more years of experience in information security OR

  • High SchoolDiploma or Equivalent and 4 or more years of experience in information security OR

  • ZurichCertified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 2 or more yearsof experience in information security AND

  • Projectmanagement experience

  • Experience inpreparing and delivering presentations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understandingof holistic set of IT technologies and processes (operating systems, databases,networking, web/application, change management, SDLC, disaster recovery,monitoring, help desk)

  • Generalknowledge of security concepts and architectures, risk management, and vendorsoffering products in this space

  • Specificknowledge of several Web-related technologies, languages, protocols, and theircorresponding vulnerabilities

  • Experiencewith working across business units and geographical boundaries to engage teammembers

  • Effective in influencing and persuasion

  • Vision and strategic foresight

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Generalknowledge of regulatory requirements relevant to the business
