Coverage Counsel I
Zurich is currently looking for a Coverage Counsel to work out of our North American head-quarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.
The Coverage Counsel manages moderately complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in commercial auto and rental liability coverage expertise to protect the interests of company. May manage moderately complex extra contractual litigation with appropriate level of supervision. Provides advice and direction on coverage and extra-contractual issues. Assigns cases to outside counsel and manages their performance.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Working towards timely resolution of coverage issues and potential litigation by developing, preparing and implementing coverage litigation strategies
Managing litigation matters by assigning cases to outside counsel, establishing litigation strategies and budget; coordinating activities; overseeing progress; reviewing litigation expenses, authorizing payments and evaluating outside counsel performance
Maintaining control of files and litigation costs
Attending pertinent trials, but is not attorney of record
Resolving technical coverage issues within claims or underwriting units by providing legal advice and counsel
Providing legal counsel to claims professionals on claims issues and to underwriters on product development, product refresh, policy language and specials endorsements and training to field on coverage matters
Ensuring legal compliance by following state and federal laws and regulations and internal control requirements
Protecting Zurich’s reputation by keeping claims information confidential
Providing proactive insights and legal guidance by identifying opportunities for technical excellence, developing and delivering targeted training to the organization
Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, staying current with industry trends, establishing personal networks. And participating in professional societies
Contributing to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed
- Juris Doctor and 4 or more years of experience in insurance coverage law
