Zurich is currently looking for an AVP & Actuary to join National Accounts in our North American head-quarters based out of Schaumburg, IL. This colleague would be responsible for providing both transactional support to field in Large Property underwriters and supporting the Large Property leadership team through portfolio support and actuarial leadership.

The AVP and Actuary will be responsible for:

  • Day to day transactional pricing support to Large Property underwriters including but not limited to providing loss picks, rate change calculations, and other quantitative exercises to support the placement of new and renewal business

  • Plan, coordinate, execute and interpret results for management reporting and business decision-making purposes; support the production of complex actuarial analyses and the development of existing and/or new analyses, where necessary.

  • Make informed actuarial recommendations based on professional judgment and experience; effectively challenge and/or escalate issues within business decisions or processes that are not able to be supported from an actuarial standpoint.

  • Provide technical and quantitative support for complex actuarial model building including developing strategies for managing our CAT exposure

  • This individual will support delivery of the annual profitability review and will maintain involvement in the planning process for Large Property in addition to leading the tiering effort on behalf of the unit.

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization with the ability achieve credibility and establish buy-in from business leaders

  • Translate strategic thought into tactical action and influence execution

  • There will be a high degree of coordination with the Property Line of Business team within Technical Underwriting particularly as it relates to complex actuarial analyses and deep dives

  • There will be a high level of collaboration with stakeholders across the organization particularly Technical Underwriting, the broader Actuarial Center of Excellence, Data & Analytics teams, Finance, Information Technology, Strategic Execution, Line of Business Pricing, and Senior Management.

Transactional Support:

Serve as the primary actuarial support for Large Property pricing and transactional activity. Support individual account pricing, rate change questions, and other technical efforts on behalf of the UW staff. As a heavy technical user of the property pricing tools, the transactional support would extend to providing feedback to Technical Underwriting (tool owners) as well as problem solving and supporting solution implementation. Additionally, this colleague will support the training and communication of changes into the field.

Portfolio Support:

This colleague will provide advice & solutions regarding growth strategies, portfolio mix, target pricing & underwriting actions. Position requires a deep knowledge of property & casualty industry, products and customers. Will help drive execution of profitability action plans and collaborate with other actuarial areas on priority projects. An ability to consult with non-actuaries to understand needs and resolve business problems is a must.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associates Degree

OR

• Bachelors Degree

AND

• 8 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certification

OR

• 13 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification

Preferred:

• Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and knowledge/skills reflective of a senior practitioner

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
