Description

Zurich North America is currently looking for an AVP Portfolio Actuary in our Technical Underwriting organization to lead Pricing in the Construction and Large Casualty business units working out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois or Zurich’s offices in the New York City area.

The AVP Portfolio Actuary will provide advice & solutions regarding growth strategies, portfolio mix, target pricing, and underwriting actions. Additional knowledge & skills needed for a successful candidate include:

  • Deep knowledge of property & casualty industry, products and customers

  • Drive execution of profitability action plans and collaborate with other actuarial areas on priority projects

  • Ability to consult with non-actuaries to understand needs and resolve business problems.

The AVP Portfolio Actuary is part of and responsible for parts of the strategic vision for the entire organization. The AVP Portfolio Actuary will also be responsible for the following:

  • Lead strategic analysis, deep dives, and trending in the Construction and Large Casualty

  • Ability to see entire portfolio strategically, and support sound business decision making

  • Lead and drive projects including profitability reviews and tiering

  • Understand “big-picture” within large, multiline accounts

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization with the ability achieve credibility and establish buy-in from business leaders

  • Translate strategic thought into tactical action

  • Influence without authority

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Actuarial areaAND

  • ACAS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FCAS

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field with a mathematical, statistical or numerate background

  • Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and in multiple business units

  • Actuarial experience that includes a combination of reserving and pricing experience, diversified business lines that include commercial lines of business

  • Project management skills

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
