Zurich North America is currently looking for an AVP & Actuary to join our National Accounts organization supporting Group Captives pricing based at our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. While this position will be based out of our Schaumburg Headquarters, we are offering the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely. You will collaborate with your manager to set a schedule that supports you, your customers, and the team.
The AVP & Actuary, Group Captives, will support the Market Facing Underwriting Teams portfolio efforts spearheaded by business leadership, as well as interface with the Shared Service Units such as Technical Underwriting and Finance to ensure the technical needs and analyses of Group Captives are properly informed of developments within the segment.
Our team of actuaries work in a collaborative, cross functional partnerships with the aim of improving the underwriting insights and financial performance of the book of business. In this role, you will work to enhance the technical pricing, decision making, and risk selection of the Group Captives Field Underwriting Team.
Additional responsibilities include:
Support Underwriters in pricing and loss forecasting concepts, model outputs and tools, and provide a feedback channel to ensure the issues faced by the tool users are being addressed by the tool designers
Understand profit drivers on portfolio and book segments and communicate insights as needed
Use developed communication and leadership skills to bring actuarial concepts regularly into discussions and to a be a part of strategic decisions regarding profit and growth
Assist Underwriters craft a story and support the new/renewal proposal with sound rationale for rate increases, term changes, coverage adjustments, etc. beyond “the model says so.” This includes researching and documenting reasons for changes from one term to another
Manage the demands of the various stakeholders ensuring predictable and timely completion of work, including but not limited to pulling/manipulating loss and exposure data, developing loss selections, participating in the determination of collateral need, testing of risk transfer, etc.
Assist to plan, coordinate, execute and interpret results for management reporting and business decision-making purposes
Support delivery of the annual profitability review and planning process for Group Captives
This is an opportunity to gain broad exposure into our National Accounts Group Captives teams, segments, and customers. You will also gain valuable underwriting insights and business knowledge working within an underwriting framework.
Basic Qualifications:
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associates DegreeOR
Bachelor’s DegreeAND
8 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certificationOR
13 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous actuarial experience with Group Captives
Experience partnering with Market Facing Underwriters on technical pricing, decision making, and risk selection
Ability to explain technical analysis results to technical as well as non-technical audiences
Experience collaborating on cross-functional team projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience with Microsoft Excel and/or knowledge of statistical analysis software.
