Zurich is currently looking for an Application Developer to work out of our Schaumburg, IL office supporting a portfolio of commercial and underwriting insurance applications as part of the Core Platform Modernization team within Information Technology Services.
The Application Developer will assist withcustomers' needs, specifically in designing, documenting, testing, and developing software applications as required, according to installation standards, procedures, and conventions, to deliver solutions which meet business requirements. The Developerwill also serve as a liaison between the Business and IT in providing solutions to their business application needs and will understand customers’ objectives, processes, and products as well as the business systems capabilities to formulate, define, document and implement systems scope and objectives in order to develop and provide application solutions.
In addition, as a key member of the Core Platform Modernization Team, the Application Developer should have experience studying the consumer market and client/business needs to deliver cutting-edge applications.
Key focus areas will include:
Coding and configuring packaged applications
Document and implement programs according to installation standards, procedures, and conventions
Prepare and execute Unit Test plans and document results
Prepare and execute System and Integration Test plans and document results
Troubleshoot program code, related objects, and documentation in order to resolve application issues
Quality check program code, related objects, and documentation
Respond to Production Support issues
Work with business as required
Analyze programs to ensure that they efficiently use computer and storage resources; recommend appropriate changes as necessary
Conduct preliminary estimates
Analyze and make recommendations for the need for system backup, security, restart/recovery, balancing & controls while also recommending approaches for meeting such needs
Analyze and document the requirements and approaches to data conversion and data modeling
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Software Programming Applications areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Software Programming Applications areaAND
Experience assisting with design, coding benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs
Experience working with multiple phases of software systems programming applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Insurance industry experience
JAVA, Angular JS and Angular II, Business Object coding strongly preferred
SQL knowledge and SQL Tools (AQT, Aginity and RSA) experience preferred
Experience with Microsoft O365
Knowledge of software design and programming principles
Experience leading a group of developers
Experience working in an Agile methodology environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Results oriented
Negotiation skills
