Actuary, AVP – Commercial Auto – Team Lead
Zurich is currently looking for an Actuarial Team Lead team to work out of our award winning North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.
The role is an AVP, Actuary I and Team Lead for the Commercial Auto team within the Actuarial Technical Execution Team, which is responsible for Reserve Reviews, the annual Strategic Business Review and Financial Plan.
The Team Lead will be responsible for assisting manager in managing workflow of team assignments, providing feedback on team member performance, and ensuring team members receive needed training to perform their job. This role is also responsible for managing the reserve review process for the department.
Technical Execution supports the reserving process by conducting reserving studies as well as the annual Strategic Business Review and Financial Plan. You will use your insurance knowledge and analytical skills to perform analyses to support our Underwriters, Managers, Finance, and Field Actuaries. Your analysis will support a breadth of projects, including reserve reviews and increasing the organization’s efficiency, effectiveness and technical capabilities.
The AVP, Actuary I and Team Lead will be responsible for:
Completing analysis in support of Reserving analysis and Strategic Business Review and reserving analyses
Becoming technical expert for Commercial Auto analysis for Reserve Reviews and Strategic Business Review
Projecting ultimate losses
Historical and forward looking loss ratio reviews
Supporting the financial close process
Supporting Financial Plan and Forecast through selection of loss ratio components and related assumptions, and inputting assumptions into Planning Model (BPC)
Preparing data in support of Rate Monitor and PATH (Pricing Activity Tracking Hub)
Supporting senior management in developing reserving strategies
Representing Reserving in the Commercial Auto Virtuous Circle
Providing support for all other requests including:
Deep dive support
Quantifying UW actions
Ad hoc requests
Bachelor's Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area
Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field with a mathematical, statistical or numerate background
Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and in multiple business units
Actuarial experience that includes a combination of reserving and pricing experience, diversified business lines that include commercial lines of business
Project management skills
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
