Actuary – Accident, Health & Travel (2c - GI)
Holds an actuarial qualification and, acting in an actuarial capacity, performs routine reserving or pricing tasks as assigned requiring minimal direct supervision, and performs more complex analyses under the supervision of more senior actuaries, all for the purpose of evaluating loss reserves or pricing business. Assists in the training of less experienced personnel.
Client Internally Focused - The job’s core deliverables rely on delivering service to internal clients, usually at the line manager or employee level. May involve sharing subject matter expertise to others in the organization or supporting others in their efforts to deliver on our promise.
Under minimal supervision, support the pricing of new/renewal business and development of effective premium/rating structures for:
Group Accident products such as AD&D, Business Travel Accident, Student/Participating Accident and Truckers Accident
Group Health products such as Employer Stop Loss and Medical/HMO Excess
Voluntary Products such as Critical Illness and In-Hospital Indemnity
Leisure and Student Travel Insurance
The actuary will eventually lead the pricing of the some of the above products.
Under minimal supervision, manage profit margins on new and renewal business and assist in the monitoring of portfolio performance.
With appropriate review, coordinate, prepare and perform actuarial analyses including trend analyses, reinsurance analyses and analyses of loss and expense reserves, as it relates to pricing adequacy and strategic direction.
Provide consultation and technical expertise on actuarial models and risk issues, and support Market Facing and Product Underwriting on pricing decisions.
Prepare premium rate filings, trend studies, rate adequacy analyses, schedules of statistics/statistical analyses, and financial statements.
Drive the design, testing and maintenance of pricing models and tools.
Provide professional actuarial support and advice to actuarial business partners including insights into underlying performance and implications for the business.
Analyze data and undertake complex modeling using established methodologies to quantify risk and support business decision making. Perform more complex analyses as assigned under the supervision of a more experienced actuary.
Manage the flow and quality of relevant actuarial data to ensure robust output.
Contribute to Virtuous Circle and Zurich Profitability Review/performance assessment discussions by providing insights from own area in order to promote cross-functional sharing of information.
Ensure that processes and standards are consistent with internal Zurich actuarial policies and guidance and, where relevant, compliant with regulations; lead the implementation of systems and process improvements in own area.
Participate in analyses and provide high quality actuarial advice to facilitate business decisions related to mergers & acquisitions and/or special projects that are outside of normal business as usual or geographic responsibilities.
Assist in the development of risk based capital models as well as parameterization and allocation activities to support actuarial services.
Research best actuarial practice and review/analyze current practice area to support senior management in developing and improving processes and systems.
Make informed actuarial recommendations based on professional judgment and experience.
Proactively identify professional development and mentoring opportunities for less experienced actuarial staff in order to promote career progression and maintain the talent pipeline.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics/Statistics or Actuarial Sciences and 5 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area
Technical knowledge and skills reflective of a practitioner who has progressed within actuarial positions of increasing responsibility
Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and in multiple business units
