International Director of Operations – West Region


Zurich is looking for an International Director of Operations –West Region. This position can be based at our office in either San Francisco,CA or Los Angeles, CA.

Our International Director of Operations – West Region will leadthe development, implementation and evaluation of system initiatives,operational processes and related policies and procedures withinthe NACI Business Unitto ensure compliance with corporate standards and tocontinuously improve business effectiveness.

High Level InfluencerbothInternallyand ExternallyFocused- The job’s core deliverables rely on influencing or negotiating with a broadrange of internal clients, specifically executives and/or senior managementaswell as the underwriting community. Developing relationships with key brokersand customers is critical, as well as being able to ability to articulate tothem our international service proposition.

Our International Director of Operations – West Region isresponsible for:

  • Ensure that all corporate information systemsactivities are implemented and monitored.

  • Create operational and system policies andprocedures.

  • Implement changes to systems and processes.

  • Produce significant business opportunitieswith major customer/ geography / operating unit.

  • Develop strategic customer relationships.

  • Develop relationships with contacts withspecialized expertise who can be called on for assistance and who will alertone to developing issues.

  • Identify opportunities and risks associatedwith changes in the external environment, looking forward 2 - 5 years.

  • Develop and implement annual budget for areaof responsibility.

  • Improve Strategic Business Unitcustomer relations with focus on profitabilityand productivity.

  • Recommend changes to policies, systems,products/ services to leaders.

  • Ensure that appropriate documentation,implementation and communication of established policy, procedures andoperating standards is completed for area of responsibility.

  • Identify potential risks and issues ofnon-compliance. Participates or may lead risk assessment for their area ofresponsibility and escalates potential issues to higher management.

  • Manage liaison between Shared Services and theorganization.

  • Represent Business Unit on corporateinitiatives.

  • Monitor project status and resourceutilization.

  • Business Travel, as required, up to 20%(Domestic)

  • Ensure all agreed upon servicedelivery standards are met / exceeded. Examples include master policy issuance, invoicing, booking, and localpolicy issuance and premium payment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Operationsarea


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in theOperations area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • People management experience, i.e. career development, performance management

  • In-depthknowledge of international practices & procedures

  • Strong communicationskills are critically important. The individual must be able toeffectively adjust their communication style to different audiences, externalparties (brokers and customers), different roles / levels within Zurich andhave a keen awareness of our rich cultural differences
