Surety Legal Claims Handler - virtual and located in Northeastern U.S.
Zurich is seeking an experienced Surety legal professional to join a seasoned claims team as a subject matter expert to handle a diverse caseload of construction/contract surety claims.
In this role, you will manage a caseload of moderate to high complexity Surety claims from start through settlement and resolution, and within specific authority limits. You will ensure that claims are handled in the most efficient and effective manner to deliver on Zurich’s claims best practices and customer led commitment. You will have an opportunity to develop strong partnerships that include extensive communications and interactions with principals, brokers and other internal business unit contacts.
Primary accountabilities include:
Analyzing coverage, liability and damages
Participating in mediations and negotiating settlements
Drafting coverage and denial letters, underwriter notification of claim issues, etc.
Drafting case summary reports in connection with significant reserve increases and trial preparation
Directing activities of defense counsel
This is a virtual position so you will have a home-based office.
To optimize the needs of the business and our customers, it is preferred that this position be located in the northeastern States.
You must be able to travel approximately 25% to visit project sites or for other business needs that may arise.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) and 5 or more years of experience in the Legal area that includes construction and/or contract surety legal claims issues
J.D. and 5 or more years of legal practice experience in the insurance area
Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s)
Experience in insurance claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
Customer service experience
Microsoft Office experience
5 or more years of experience in construction and/or contract surety claims or insurance defense work
Strong math and finance skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task
Organization and time management skills
Ability to work independently
Experience collaborating across work groups
