Reinsurance Financial Manager
Zurich North America is currently hiring a Reinsurance Financial Manager and this person can either work out of our North America HQ in Schaumburg, IL OR remotely for the right person. This person will report to a AVP of Group Reinsurance Finance.
This position is within Zurich's Group Reinsurance (Group Re) function, a global function. The North American Group Reinsurance hub function manages $18 billion in reinsurance recoverable, $9 billion of assumed and ceded premiums and has the fiduciary responsibility for reinsurance collateral of approximately $15 billion.
This Reinsurance Financial Manager is responsible for managing a team that is accountable for handling complex reinsurance transactions for Global Energy, Bermuda ZGL and WAQS business ensuring compliance with terms and conditions of the reinsurance agreements, proper accounting methodology and departmental standard operating procedures. Additionally, this position is also responsible for team’s workflow governance, financial and performance analysis, complex issue resolution and technical training and mentoring. This position will also collaborate with the Group Re Reporting team having shared resources, ZNA Financial Reporting and Switzerland team on quarterly and annual deliverables.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Supporting team in analyzing and applying proper accounting and operational procedures for complex reinsurance contracts
Providing direction to team to perform proper calculations, recording, accounting, reporting, billings and settlement of complex reinsurance transactions
Oversight of handling reinsurance claims of medium to high complexity
Support team in identifying issues and coordinate resolution
Manage team in developing, preparing, analyzing, or reviewing complex internal or external reinsurance reports, financial statements, key performance indicators, variance analysis, g/l reconciliations or scorecards
Coaching and mentoring team with complex reinsurance agreement and individual transactional responsibilities
Identifying and supporting team in identifying simplification and efficiency efforts of operational processes
Collaborating with team ensuring proper protocols and procedural documentation in place
Collaborating with appropriate stakeholders for operational set-up of new reinsurance agreements
Lead and coordinate projects – multitasking projects and business as usual
Assisting and providing feedback to audit request
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and 6 or more years of experience in the Reinsurance area within the Insurance industry OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Reinsurance area within the Insurance industry
CPA / CPCU / CFA / CTP
People management experience
Advanced knowledge of reinsurance contracts
Advanced knowledge of reinsurance claims recoverable process and link to direct claim processing
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office and project experience
Technology experience related to one or more of the following areas: General ledger, financial reporting systems, Business Objects or other query tools
Strong verbal and written communication skills
