Zurich North America is seeking a VP, CasualtyPortfolioUnderwriter for our growing Middle Market team. The CasualtyPortfolioUnderwriter will leverage their Casualty knowledge to provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to U.S. Middle Market Leaders and Underwriters. The primary focus of this position will be supporting Umbrella and Products Liability, in addition to all other Casualty Lines of Business. We are open to hiring talent remotely and/or in one of the following locations Chicago, New York City, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.
This is a great opportunity to leverage your extensive knowledge of Casualty products while also leveraging your leadership skills by monitoring the Casualty portfolio and training and mentoring our Underwriters.
This position reports to the Head of Casualty, Middle Market and can be based in one of our Zurich Offices or remote.
Responsibilities include:
Portfolio Performance management, including product and pricing/rating performance for the Umbrella Line of Business and Products Liability – by industry, geography, peril, etc.
Creating underwriting guidelines, technical training, accumulation management and tiering
Handling the most complex queries and referrals within delegated authority, including approval of terms and conditions
Partnering with Product Development team to monitor product to ensure that products are fit for purpose
Partnering with the actuarial team to monitor Model Price accuracy, develop and implement solutions to enhance model price and drive continuous enhancements of pricing tools
Supporting continuous improvement of underwriting processes and tool landscape
Providing strategic input for Casualty Strategy and developing/recommending strategic business and service plans
Identifying opportunities and risk for the Umbrella Line of Business and Products Liability associated with changes in direction of external environment, looking forward 5+ years
Leading matrix portfolio management for shared International Casualty and Excess Casualty portfolios
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Management or Underwriting or Broker or Carrier or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industry
Umbrella and Casualty experience
*Only current employees level 7 and above may apply with a High School Diploma or Equivalent and 12 or more years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced and in-depth knowledge of Umbrella and Products Liability and Middle Market products, including an in-depth understanding of pricing and rating
In depth knowledge of International Casualty products and market
Portfolio management, risk selection and pricing experience
Product development and underwriting strategy experience
Technical knowledge and multi-level leadership skills
Excellent execution, communication and influencing skills with the ability to be solution oriented, with strong collaboration and conflict resolution experience
Strong executive presence and the ability to interact across all levels of the organization
Ability to manage vision and purpose, lead the organization through innovative and creative thinking
Track record of fostering business improvement and delivering change in a complex insurance environment
Compensation for roles at Zurich varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable range of compensation for roles. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education. The salary provided is a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. The starting salary range for this position is $190,000.00- $245,000.00.
