Zurich North America is currently looking for an experienced Construction Casualty Underwriting Manager for our MidAtlantic region. This position will be based in our Philadelphia Office and will be responsible for managing a team of market facing underwriters and help drive the growth and profitability of our National Accounts Construction Casualty book of business. This is a critical leadership position and we are looking for a candidate able to help the broader team execute on our core strategies of effective cross sell, developing mutually beneficial customer/broker relationships, and delivering profitable growth.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering on key performance and financial targets for the MidAtlantic territory as part of the broader East Region’s efforts to meet/exceed its financial plan.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with distributors in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions

  • Managing and mentoring a team of underwriters by acting a technical resource and aid in the process of making appropriate UW decisions

  • Helping the team manage and develop a viable new business pipeline comprised of accounts that meet the organization’s appetite.

  • Helping the team identify and manage cross sell opportunities

  • Managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to help identify opportunities for service improvements, ensure commercial viability, and manage customer satisfaction.

  • Participating in regional and local leadership team meetings to provide specialist guidance and enable the implementation of policies, projects and/or change initiatives aimed towards producing profitable results

  • Contributing to the business strategy to help align underwriting strategy with wider business goals

  • Overseeing development plans for underwriters to ensure the capability exists to drive business results.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaAND

  • 2 or more years of management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge and practice of Construction Casualty lines of business

  • Advanced knowledge of Loss Sensitive Plans, including deductibles, retros, SIR’s, and captives

  • Strong managerial, team building, collaboration and organizational skills

  • Established Broker relationships in the region

  • Strong relationship, presentation, negotiation, and leadership skills

  • Ability to interact with the C-Suite

  • Advanced knowledge in risk selection and assessment, along with the ability to manage complex portfolios

  • Technical knowledge of insurance industry operations and processes

  • Knowledge of loss trends, triangles and ratemaking
