Application Manager


Zurich is currently searching for an Application Manager to work out of our Overland Park, KS that will report to the North American headquarters in Schaumburg, IL and will report to VP of Application Development and Maintenance.She/he will be responsible for:

  • All aspects of the development and implementation of assigned IT enhancements, compliance and regulatory changes and acts as a single point of contact for those initiatives

  • Taking business ask from original concept through final implementation, and interfacing with all areas affected by the project including end users, executive leadership, vendor teams, computer services, and client services

  • Defining project & enhancing scope and objectives, and developing detailed work plans, schedules, estimates, resource plans, and status

  • Providing critical project and enhancement updates to business leadership via steering committee meetings, including status, resource planning, production metrics and assists with prioritization of new requirements

  • Knowledge on managing vendor and custom developed Policy management system architecture and related technologies

  • Knowledge in Commercial Insurance Domain and functional knowledge of a policy administration system, rating and pricing applications

  • Managing a policy administration system and its key interfaces

  • Providing solutions to complex business problems for area of responsibility where analysis requires an in-depth knowledge of Policy Administration System

  • Setting strategic direction to establish near term and long term goals for the Policy Administration system

  • The ability to negotiate with a product vendor on vendor contracts and measure their performance through various Service Level Agreements / Credits

  • Conducting monthly steering committee meetings with senior business and IT stakeholders to provide application status / budget / deliverables / in flight projects / enhancements

  • Prioritization of work with different business stakeholders and business units

  • Managing multiple vendors - Testing, IT support and Product Vendor and in reviewing weekly statuses with Vendors and providing direction

  • Managing Release, Compliance, Base cost and applying lean initiatives to reduce the overall TCO

  • Making systematic and rational judgment during outage or release implementation issues

  • Demonstrating an understanding of industry trends, commercial Insurance business concepts, opportunities and constraints in the environment

  • Creating an environment of trust and cooperation through an open exchange of ideas towards achieving team goals

Influencer Internally Focused - The job’s core deliverables rely on influencing or negotiating with a range of internal clients, usually at the line manager or employee level. Relationships typically involve promoting cooperation, collaboration or acceptance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • People management experience

  • Commercial insurance experience

  • Strong executive presence required

  • Ability to manage small to mid-sized internal teams

  • Prepares and monitors budgets and workforce allocations for internal and external teams

  • Consulting background is a plus

  • Experience with managing outsourced development teams is preferred

  • Experience working with vendor sourced and customized insurance products and managing vendor contracts

  • Working with distributed teams and customers

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Cultural awareness

  • Agile experience
