Senior Environmental Underwriter


Zurich is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Underwriter forour Northeastern region. This position may be based our of offices in New York, Boston or Philadelphia.

As a Senior Environmental Underwriter you will have the chance touse your market facing and analytical skills to analyze and underwrite new andrenewal environmental business, under limited direction, utilizing The ZurichWay of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on highlycomplex assignments ensuring a high level service to customers. We are seekingsomeone witha strong market facingpresence and high technical acumen.

Client Externally Focused - The job’s core deliverables rely on deliveringservice to external clients and/or customers. Typically involves buildingrelationships and promoting the company.

Our Senior Environmental Underwriter is responsible for:

  • Proactivelyseeking renewal and new account opportunities.

  • Complete detailed opportunity assessment with keydistributors to identify growth opportunities.

  • Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite,balanced with sound business opportunity.

  • Make agent/broker/customer and on-sight calls with aplanned and well-prepared purpose.

  • Negotiate Terms & Conditions and close deals.

  • Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase productdensity with the account.

  • Participate in Sales Team meeting as related to assignedbrokers and / or territory.

  • Proactively engage in the target account process, managinga qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.

  • Update required systems with details of broker / clientvisits and account status within specified time frame.

  • Serve as key contact for assigned target accounts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in theUnderwriting or Market Facing area


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in theClaims or Underwriting Support area


  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 ormore years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area


  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 ormore years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business

  • Experience working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • CPCU

  • Advanced knowledge of Environmental product lines

  • Strong broker/customer relationships in Houston, South Central region

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent skills in relationship building

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Results oriented
