Senior Domestic Casualty Underwriter (Level III or Level IV)
Zurich North America is hiring an experienced Senior Domestic Casualty Underwriter (Level III or Level IV) to join our Domestic Large Casualty team in our East Region. The position would be located in our New York office. We are also open to hiring talent in our Boston office.

We are looking for someone with excellent market facing and technical skills that has experience working with Brokers in the NY Metro region. Experience with Casualty lines of business is needed for this role. This position would be working with our domestic large casualty products managing a renewal book along with being responsible for bringing in new business.
This role will be filled at either theSenior Domestic Casualty Underwriter(Level III) or AVP,Domestic Casualty Underwriter(Level IV). The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.
Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting framework and within delegated authority levels on assignment of higher technical complexity and coordination.
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business related needs, as appropriate.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition and works with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose
Update required systems with details of broker / client visits and account status within specified time frame.Measure exposures/analyze risk.
Quote and set coverage, negotiate terms and conditions.
Service accounts, handles declination's/cancellations.
Participate in marketing presentations to assigned agents/brokers.
Senior, Level III Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience working in a team environment
AVP, Level IV Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Experience with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels):
Advanced knowledge and practice of all lines of Casualty business
Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
Ability to effectively assess risk
Ability to work in a team- based environment
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Strong presentation skills

The salary range for this role at the Senior Underwriter III level is $100,900-$126,200. The salary range for this role at the AVP, Underwriter IV level is $159,200-$199,000. This is the range Zurich NA in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of the posting. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also bonus eligible. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
