Zurich North America is currently seeking an AVP for our Management Liability team to manage the Management Liability Fidelity / Crime portfolio. This position will sit out of our New York office and manage a group of underwriters, along with being responsible for the overall Financial Lines Crime portfolio with includes Financial Institutions business.

The role will also have Financial Lines responsibility in managing our stand-alone product for International Programs. Zurich has historically offered the stand-alone International Programs option solely out of our London office, but will now start offering it out of the United States for US domiciled risks. The role we be charged with the growth of the product in the United States in collaboration with our Financial Lines offerings. Since this is a new product being offered in the United States, Financial Lines underwriters will need to be trained on the product from a policy language /coverage standpoint and then from a sales perspective to the brokerage community on the benefits.

This role requires:

  • Strong management and leadership skills and the ability to develop portfolio insights, deliver strategy execution and invest in developing deep relationships with our Brokers and Customers.

  • Experience handling a large portfolio of varying accounts to include global accounts as well as knowledge of industry claim trends for public and private companies by company size, sector, employee count as well as appropriate limit deployment is necessary in this role.

  • Executing the strategy and balancing the mix of business and driving and cultivating broker relationships while managing and developing a team of underwriters. A

  • An influential approach to business relationships and oversight on strategic underwriting practices and requires strong technical skills.

High Level Influencer Externally Focused - The job’s core deliverables rely on influencing or negotiating with external contacts on strategic impact matters. Relationships typically involve persuading or countering opposition, often with vendor representatives or senior management level customers.

This role is responsible for:

  • Developing a team of Underwriters.

  • Develop processes and review policies relevant to underwriting to ensure they are in line with strategic business objectives.

  • Managing relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.

  • Participate in leadership team meetings to provide specialist guidance and enable the implementation of policies, projects and change initiatives to produce profitable results.

  • Contribute to the business strategy to align underwriting strategy with wider business goals.

  • Participate in the community of global/regional proposition development practitioners in underwriting to share best practice and continue to meet customer´s needs.

  • Oversee development plans for underwriters to ensure the capability exists to drive business results.

  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.

  • Recommend and implement action plans after reviewing brokers books of business and profit/growth results and trends.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.

  • Support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers.

  • Modernization of the Crime policy forms currently offered within the Corporate and Middle Market market baskets to contemplate more current perils like social engineering, cyber security and crypto currency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industryOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industryOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industryOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industryAND

  • 2 or more years of management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • CPCU

  • Advanced knowledge of product lines and insurance industry

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent skills in relationship building

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Results oriented
