Zurich is seeking a successfulLiability Defense Attorney to work out of their home in Louisiana.

This Trial Attorney will beresponsible for representing the commercial insureds of a prestigious andfinancially stable commercial insurance carrier, by preparing and trying Commercial Auto and General Liability casesfrom a challenging and varied caseload. They will be responsible forhandling cases for the Southwest, Central and Northern parts of the state ofLouisiana.

This is an exciting opportunityto work for a well-respected organization and represent its insureds in allphases of litigation, while being part of a high-performing, team oriented lawoffice. The ideal candidate will be able to engage in the practice oflaw, at all times in compliance with the ethical standards as established bythe national/local area of practice.

The selected candidate willperform duties encompassing all aspects of insurance defense, including initialinvestigation and legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legalpleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conductingpre-trial discovery, preparing for and aggressively handling hearing andtrials, and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate. We lookfor demonstrated case analysis ability and a track record of proven trial andnegotiation skills, along with the ability to work independently and withoutsubstantial supervision.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the LitigationareaAND

  • Member of the Louisiana State Bar in goodstanding

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe

  • Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurancedefense litigation legal environment

  • Knowledgeof the law and procedure

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with insuranceindustry claims and general commercial litigation.

  • Must be well organizedwith good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills,proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, and able to workindependently as well as within a team environment.

  • Demonstrates effectivenegotiating skills.

  • Ability to budget costsand calculate exposure for clients.

  • Understands the staffcounsel function and role in overall business.
