Market Facing Underwriter-Large Surety Contract (II or III)
Zurich North America is looking for a Market Facing Underwriter III to join our Large Contract Surety team in the West Region. Ideally this role will be based out of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle or Denver, however, we will consider a remote/virtual work locations in the West Region. The Market Facing Underwriter II or III – Large Contract Surety Underwriting role is part of the West Region responsible for managing Large Accounts and an assigned portfolio of targeted Large Account prospects. This is a technical and market facing position that requires significant experience with contract surety or comparable credit analysis. Assigned accounts will be primarily located in the western states having commensurate travel requirements.
This role will be filled at either the II or III level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.
The Market Facing Underwriter Large Contract Surety responsibilities include:
Underwriting and analyzing new and renewal of Large Accounts within delegated authority levels
Implement marketing plans aligned with business strategy and wider business goals.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions
Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules
Working within broad limits and authorities on complex assignments
Clear and distinct accountability for business results
Level III Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience working in a team environment
Level II Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years Underwriting, Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking areaOR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience with Microsoft Office
Surety knowledge and experience
Ability to analyze and understand credit assessments, trends, and strategies
Investigative skills to develop an understanding of business strategies, trends, complex contracts, assessment of long term obligations and organizational character among other aspects of our customers
Ability to coherently articulate these strategies and financial concepts formulating fact based conclusions and recommendations.
Prior experience managing/growing profitable portfolio of customers
Negotiation experience with key stakeholders
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Personable & outgoing
Microsoft Office experience

The salary range for this role is $98,400-$123,000. This is the range Zurich NA in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of the posting. Zurich NA may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also bonus eligible. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
