IT Security Architect, AVP


Zurich Services LLC (a division of Zurich American Insurance) is currently hiring a IT Security Architect reporting to the Chief Security Architect. This role can work in either Schaumburg, IL; Grand Rapids, MI; Los Angeles, CA; OR fully remote based.

Zurich IT Services is looking for a IT Security Architect to assist the business in using a risk-based approach to secure IT systems from current and emerging threats during development and maintenance cycles, determine security requirements for projects, estimate the cost and determine the delivery approach for security solutions, assist in preparing global IT security standards and reference architecture and assist in the development of policies and procedures.

  • Plan, analyze, and design global security systems and services including security monitoring, identity management, access control, endpoint protection and security automation

  • Initiate upgrades to security systems as necessitated by technology availability and maturity, security gaps, emerging threats, business risk and needs, and cost effectiveness

  • Develop and maintain security architecture patterns for IT solutions to ensure adherence to Security by Design principles

  • Serve as a primary security contact for projects during the planning, analysis, and design phases

  • Provide IT security technology and process guidance for enterprise and solution architects and business stakeholders

  • Monitor ongoing projects to verify security components are built and deployed as designed

  • Assist in reviewing compliance to Zurich’s reference security architecture and industry standards, internal policies, and procedures

  • Research emerging security technologies; run security product evaluations, comparisons and “proof of concept” implementations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent in Information Technology and 8 or more years of experience in the Information Technology areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 years of professional experience with at least 5 years in IT security (technology-focused roles)

  • Experience with best practices and methods of IT strategy, enterprise architecture and security architecture

  • Exposure to business planning, systems analysis and software development

  • Experience working across organizational and geographical boundaries

  • Certifications a plus: CISSP, CISM, AWS and Azure certifications

  • Identity and authentication technologies: Active Directory, SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, SCIM

  • Application security and DevSecOps controls: threat modelling, application security testing, secure code practices, web application firewalls

  • Network security technologies: firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, network access control, network segmentation, wireless security, DDoS protection

  • Endpoint protection and endpoint detection and response platforms, mobile device security approaches

  • Secure build and operations of servers based on Windows and Linux operating systems

  • Cloud security concepts with focus on native cloud security capabilities

  • Security logging and monitoring technologies

  • ISO 27001/27002, ITIL, NIST and MITRE ATT&CK frameworks

  • Security reference architecture development and definition

  • Network or web penetration testing skills a plus

  • Strong written or verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
