Senior Market Facing Underwriter, Accident and Health, Leisure Travel

Zurich Accident & Health is looking for a Senior Underwriter to support our entry into the Leisure Travel Protection marketplace in the United States. This is a great opportunity to start on the ground floor of what is expected to be an extremely significant business for Zurich Accident & Health in the U.S. in the coming years. The position will have technical, transactional and market facing responsibilities; and it will also make contributions in the areas of product/proposition development, marketing, fulfillment and portfolio management. The preferred work location for this position is Zurich’s Chicago, New York, Atlanta or San Francisco office.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Generating, underwriting, and analyzing Leisure Travel opportunities.

  2. Managing own portfolio of accounts.

  3. Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

  4. Market facing activities, such as contributing to the development and maintenance of broker relationships and developing a pipeline.

  5. Collaborating and cross selling with other stakeholders and lines of business within Zurich.

  6. Participating in the development and implementation of Leisure Travel strategies and initiatives.

  7. Contributing to the development and maintenance of third party relationships for administration, travel assistance and claims handling.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in an Underwriting or Market Facing role

OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in a Claims or Underwriting Support role

OR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in an Underwriting or Market Facing role

OR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in a Claims or Underwriting Support role

AND

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • In-depth knowledge of the Leisure Travel business

  • Superior skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating.

  • Demonstrates strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation.

  • Possesses solid time management skills and a working knowledge of time restraints associated with insurance and underwriting activities.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively assess risk.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Must be able to function effectively in a team environment.
