Market Facing Underwriter, Corporate D&O- Public
Zurich is seeking a Mid-level or Senior Market Facing Underwriter for our Corporate D&O team in our Chicago office.
This role will be filled at either the Mid-Level or Senior level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position
The ideal candidate for the Corporate D&O position will work in a team setting to underwrite and perform financial analysis for public companies within Zurich's Management Solutions Group with specific focus on Directors & Officers, Fiduciary, Fidelity and Employment Practices Liability lines of business for public companies.
As an Underwriter you will have a chance to use your marketing and analytical skills. Specifically, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, under general direction, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity ensuring a high-level service to customers. This is a market facing position thus we are seeking someone with a strong sales execution mindset and advanced knowledge of large property policies.
Key accountabilities of this role include:
Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting framework and within delegated authority levels on assignment of higher technical complexity and coordination.
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs, as appropriate.
May provide guidance to lower level associates.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition and works with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions.
Supports the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose
Level II Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Knowledge of Management Liability lines of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience with Microsoft Office
Level III Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience working in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications Level II & III:
Technical knowledge of commercial Corporate D&O Underwriting
Established broker relationships (Retail, select brokers) in assigned territory.
Sales execution mindset
Creative problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
