Zurich North America is currently looking for a Head of Accident & Health for our US Commercial Insurance A&H Business Unit. This role will report to the Head of US Commercial Insurance and will utilize their knowledge base to manage and drive overall success within our A&H business. Working in cooperation with the Global A&H team this leader will develop our strategy and deliver a collaborative approach to growth with our Brokers and partners and position Zurich North America to attract top talent to take the business unit to the next level. This is a critical role and requires advanced knowledge of highly complex A&H business and an influential oversight of strategic underwriting practices. We are looking for a collaborative leader with a passion and capability for creating world-class teams and the ability to communicate to clients and drive and cultivate relationships. This role will also be part of Global A&H leadership team.
The Accident & Health team specializes in insurance products and solutions to help protect employees from financial risks related to accidents and injuries, while helping companies and organizations better manage these financial risks. With skyrocketing costs, rapidly advancing medical technology, global travel and other issues affecting employee benefits costs, employers have a lot to consider when deciding the best course of action for their employees and their company. We prefer the Head of Accident & Health be based in either our Zurich New York, Chicago or Schaumburg office with significant business travel expected.
As the key A&H leader in the country, drive engagement with the market to establish Zurich as the major provider in the US and support efforts to build Zurich as the top global provider of multinational A&H business and the partner of choice for global brokers and clients.
Work with global counterparts and Global A&H team to continuously develop new propositions, technology and distribution channels.
Contribute to the business strategy to align underwriting strategy with wider US business goals.
Identifying A&H LoB opportunities and risks associated with the change in external environment and adapting internal strategies and execution to maintain profitability and growth.
Establishing key performance targets and financial budgets for the business unit unit to optimize business performance in line with set objectives.
Interpret and review the commercial drivers in the market and the organization´s strategic goals, translate into objectives to develop cross-functional business cases for complex projects and programs and act as program sponsor to ensure effective delivery of projects.
Develop and maintain relationships in support of business retention, new business and determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
Participate in leadership team meetings to provide specialist guidance and enable the implementation of policies, projects and change initiatives to produce profitable results.
Recommend and implement action plans after reviewing agency books of business and profit/growth results and trends.
Support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for distributors, agents, brokers, and customers.
Develop a people management plan to drive performance management in the organization and to optimize performance within the team, and manage performance of team members, including ensuring team members comply with company policies and expectations and take appropriate action.
10 years of Underwriting, Risk Management experience on the carrier or brokerage side OR general market facing experience within the commercial insurance industry.
2 years of management experience.
Commercial Accident & Health experience.
Previous experience running a complex business unit with P&L responsibility with a proven track record of growing and retaining a large book of business.
Advanced and in-depth knowledge of A&H lines of business to include Group Accident, Occupational Accident, Specialty Health and Travel Accident).
Experience building and implementing our key strategies.
Established broker relationships and superior skills in relationship building, active listening and win-win negotiating.
Strong executive presence and the ability to interact with the C-Suite.
Ability to manage vision and purpose, lead the organization through innovative and creative thinking.
