Commercial Surety Underwriting Officer
Zurich North America is looking for a Commercial Surety Underwriting Officer for our growing Central Region Commercial Surety Team, ideally based out our Chicago, Illinois office. Remote options within the territory will also be considered.
The Commercial Surety Underwriting Officer will take over a growing book-of-business with a focus on Fortune 2000 companies across a variety of industries in Zurich’s Central Region. The Commercial Surety Central region is made-up of 13 states including Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
The ideal candidate will have a history of success in the Commercial Surety space with deep technical knowledge coupled with an exceptional market facing skillset which enables the Underwriter to establish and cultivate fruitful relationships with Brokers enabling robust new and renewal business opportunities based on The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity ensuring a high level service to customers.
Additionally, the Commercial Surety Underwriting Officer is responsible for:
Marketing Zurich's Surety products and services
Developing, underwriting, and managing a portfolio of Surety business
Managing the selection/denial of new and/or renewal business
Developing and maintaining relationships with brokers and customers
Developing, administering, and monitoring complex underwriting rules and guidelines
Investigating, recommending, and leading product development efforts
Leading and participating on project and key initiative teams
Assures development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards to produce profitable underwriting results significantly contributing to process improvement and technology innovation
Working in close collaboration with other teams within Zurich, including risk management, operations, and finance
Addressing governance and regulatory compliance issues.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area or Finance, Accounting or Banking experienceOR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area or Finance, Accounting or Banking experienceOR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience working in a team environment.
Strong knowledge of State & National underwriting philosophy, techniques, regulations, and guidelines
Ability to effectively assess risk
Knowledge and awareness of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
History of providing an outstanding service level and exceeding broker and customer’s expectations
Superior relationship building skills and experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Outstanding needs-analysis skills and experience
Solid presentation skills
Ability to work in a team-based environment
Microsoft Office experience.
