Zurich North America is seeking a Financial Lines Public D&O Underwriter III / IVfor our Management Liability, D&O team for the Central Region based out of our Chicago, Illinois office. Alternatively, this role could be virtual and based in either Cleveland, Ohio, Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Overland Park, Kansas.

This role will be filled at either the III or IV level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

The ideal candidate for the Management Liability D&O position will work in a team setting to underwrite and perform financial analysis for public companies within Zurich's Management Solutions Group with specific focus on Directors & Officers, Fiduciary, Fidelity and Employment Practices Liability lines of business for public companies.

As an Underwriter you will have a chance to use your marketing and analytical skills. Specifically, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, under general direction, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity ensuring a high-level service to customers. This is a market facing position thus we are seeking someone with a strong sales execution mindset, an ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with Brokers, and advanced knowledge of Directors and Officers liability.

Some of the key accountabilities of this role include:

  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels on assignment of higher technical complexity and coordination

  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules

  • Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs, as appropriate

  • May provide guidance to lower level associates

  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors in support of business retention and acquisition and works with customers and distributors to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions

  • Supports the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers

  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities

  • Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities

  • Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity

  • Make broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

Level III Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Accounting, Finance or Risk Management areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Accounting, Finance or Risk Management areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND

  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines

  • Knowledge of time restraints for quoting new business

  • Experience working in a team environment

Level IV Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Accounting, Finance or Risk Management areaOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Accounting, Finance or Risk Management areaOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support areaAND

  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines

  • Knowledge of time restraints for quoting new business

  • Experience working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications Level III & IV:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Advanced technical knowledge of commercial corporate D&O underwriting

  • Established broker relationships (Retail, select brokers) in assigned territory

  • Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines

  • Ability to effectively assess risk

  • Ability to work in a team-based environment

  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business

  • Strong presentation skills
