Zurich North America is on the search for a Regional Investment Manager, NA, Managing Director. This role reports to the Head of Investment Strategy Implementation and matrices to the CEO of North America and will be based in our New York Office.

In this role you will be responsible for leading the implementation of the Group´s investment strategy for local balance sheets to ensure an optimal construction of Zurich's investment portfolios This role is responsible for Zurich North America, Zurich Canada, ZLS, Zalico, Farmers New World Life, and other related investment portfolios. We are looking for a candidate who has a strong investment management background and has managed asset portfolios, analyze market developments and can deliver sustainable risk-adjusted returns aligned with the business’s risk appetite and economic and income targets.

This is a critical role and requires strong stakeholder management and influencing skills. We are looking for an inclusive leader with strong communication skills and who can navigate through a complex organization

Key accountabilities:

Strategic Asset Allocation, Investment Strategy, Asset Liability Management and Tactical Asset Allocation implementation:

  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, formulates and implements a bottom up Strategic Asset Allocation, Asset Liability Management strategy, and Tactical Asset allocation for the local investment units

  • Responsible for development and optimization of the associated investment strategies, seeking to maximize economic value

Portfolio construction and asset manager oversight:

  • Formulates and reviews the portfolio mandates and investment guidelines applying to internal and external asset managers to ensure effective implementation of Strategic Asset Allocation decisions, as well as compliance with the Zurich Risk Policy and other relevant constraints

  • Regularly reviews performance of portfolios and mandates with asset managers, and defines and implements remedial actions where required

Financial results and liquidity management:

  • Responsible for delivery of the region’s Net Investment income, in coordination with local Business Units’ finance and treasury teams (planning and controlling)

  • Supports the management of liquidity strategies in conjunction with the regional treasury teams

  • Supports the management of realized gains/losses that impact Group Profit & Loss

Unit Linked and related Investments:

  • Lead advisor in terms of investment content and strategies with respect to the region’s Unit-Linked Investments (BOLI, Variable Universal Life, etc)

Derivatives:

  • Design and deliver derivative programs in alignment with the Group’s Financial Engineering team

Regional investment governance:

  • Lead local Investment Committees (ALMIC) and ensure that relevant Investment Management strategies are syndicated and implemented in a timely and efficient manner, taking into consideration local regulatory and group governance considerations

People management:

  • Line manager responsible for the North American investment team

  • Key stakeholder liaison between the local Business management and Group Investment Management, providing support and resolution for all investment related matters

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 15 or more years of experience in the Investment Management areaAND

  • Experience with Asset management company or investment department of an insurance company as CIO, portfolio manager, financial analyst, economist, investment strategist, or risk manager

  • Knowledge of current insurance markets

  • Experience in defining and implementing creative solutions for investment risks

  • People management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialist knowledge of investments, capital markets and investment structures, asset classes and derivatives gained through experience in asset management, finance, or banking

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels and demonstrated ability to influence and engage internal and external stakeholders.

  • Insurance industry experience

  • Proven ability and willingness to challenge constructively the ‘status quo’ and to manage change by transitioning from strategic recommendations to practical implementation

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or equivalent
