Zurich North America is looking for a Market Facing Management Liability Underwriting Manager, D&O (AVP or VP) to be based out of our New York City World Trade Center or Atlanta, Georgia office. This Market Facing Underwriting Manager is responsible for our Mid-Atlantic & Southeast Region, with the major hubs of business including Philadelphia, DC, Atlanta and Texas. This role will be responsible for the growth and profitability of Financial Lines Products (Directors and Officers, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability and Crime Insurance) for publicly traded companies.

This is a critical leadership position and we are looking for a leader that will manage the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Region’s financial plan, execute the strategy (growth), drive rate and retention along with cultivating broker/client relationships. This role currently has 4 direct reports who are managing client and broker relationships throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Regions.

This role will be filled at either the AVP or VP level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and driving a team of underwriting professionals and executing on the set forth growth strategy

  • Leading a team towards growth opportunities that align with our Financial Lines Accelerated Growth Plan

  • Portfolio management & profitable growth

  • Managing renewal book of business and driving new strategic relationships

  • Strategy execution

  • Internal (Claims, Actuary, Finance, etc) and External (brokers and clients) stakeholder management

  • Establishing key performance targets and financial budgets in order to optimize new business targets

  • Strategy execution in line with underwriting objectives to meet/exceed the financial plan with a focus on rate and retention for Management Liability - Public Accounts in the MidAtlantic Region

  • Managing and mentoring a team of underwriters by acting a technical resource and shepherding the referral process

  • Helping the team manage the new business pipeline

  • Managing relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction

  • Participating in leadership team meetings of assigned area to provide specialist guidance and enable the implementation of policies, projects and change initiatives to produce profitable results

  • Contributing to the business growth strategy to align underwriting strategy with wider business goals

  • Overseeing development plans for underwriters to ensure the capability exists to drive business results.

  • Recommending and implementing action plans after reviewing broker partner books of business and profit/growth results and trends

VP Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting, Market Facing, Broker, Carrier or Risk Management area within the Commercial Insurance industryOR

  • Bachelors Degree with 20 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industryAND

  • Experience working with Primary Casualty lines of business including Workers Compensation, General Liability and Auto

  • 2 or more years of people management experience

AVP Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industryOR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industryOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industryOR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industryAND

  • 2 or more years of management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • CPCU

  • Advanced knowledge of Public Management Liability Lines of Business including D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, and Crime

  • Ability to leverage existing relationships with Agents, Brokers, internal, and external business partners

  • Portfolio Management Experience

  • Excellent communication & presentation skills
